Guy Van Riper with Foil Sealer Driving Continuous Improvement at CST & CCP

A lot has happened since Guy Van Riper accepted the role of Plant Manager for Cortec® Wisconsin plants in April of 2022. In a little less than a year, Cortec® Spray Technologies (CST) and Cortec® Coated Products (CCP) have increased efficiencies and capacity to serve customers, with more process improvements underway. Here is a look at the man who is a key driver behind these ongoing improvements.

With a background in mechanical engineering, leadership, and Lean Six Sigma at big name companies including Silgan Containers, Parker Hannifin, and Hutchinson Technology, Guy came to Cortec® well equipped to maximize efficiency and eliminate wasted motion. In years past, it was not uncommon for him to find ways to save $100K per annum through efficiency initiatives. He also got a sneak preview into Cortec® products from the user perspective, since he sometimes had to wrap hydraulic parts in VpCI® Paper for corrosion protection before shipping them out. Little did he know that one day he would be responsible for maximizing efficiency at Cortec’s VpCI® Paper and aerosol plants.

As might be guessed from the credentials above, finding ways to eliminate wasted motion is second nature for Guy, who has already been busy reorganizing and leveraging resources to make the most of labor, equipment, and space at both CST and CCP. A prime example is Guy’s recent installation of an automated foil cap sealer, which increased throughput for this process by 70%. He also plans to double bottle fill capacity and implement other process improvements that will mean greater efficiency to serve more customers.

Guy has a strong commitment to both internal and external customer success. Guy wants to be a team player and foster an excellent working environment for employees. He also wants customers to know that Cortec® supports them 100%, will meet commitments, and find timely solutions when issues arise. The last factor has been especially important for customers coming to Cortec® for help in the last couple of years when supply chain problems left many without a supplier of contract aerosol fill services. Cortec® has been in a strong position to come to the rescue. Fortunately, though, supply chain issues have eased up enough in the last few months to leave Guy with more time to focus on improving plant efficiencies and service in ways that will benefit both Cortec® and customers.
