It has been about 15 years since one brake rotor manufacturer stopped using liquid rust preventatives for the WIP (work-in-process) cycle and started sandwiching parts between precut sheets of CorShield® VpCI®-146 Paper. This provided satisfactory corrosion protection without the normal residue. In the fall of 2020, they automated their packaging process for domestic shipment and incorporated 10,000 feet (3,048 m) rolls of VpCI® Paper, as well. This was chosen over VpCI®-126 Film because it was easier to work into the automated packing process. A machine unrolls CorShield® VpCI®-146 Paper and cuts it into pieces. Next, a robot layers the paper and rotors on a pallet, which is then automatically stretch-wrapped with Cor-Pak® VpCI® Stretch Film before shipment. Ultimately, VpCI® Paper has proved to be a satisfactory corrosion solution over the last decade-plus, leaving behind no residue and providing an easy transition into robotic packaging.
